MARK WASTELL is a versatile improvising musician and founder of the record label Confront Recordings. Wastell, who is based in London, has for decades played a central role in the British improvised musical scene. He has among other things contributed to Chris Burn’s Ensemble, Derek Bailey’s Company, Evan Parker’s String Project, and played with musicians John Zorn, Keith Rowe, Peter Kowald, Hugh Davies, Roger Turner, Veryan Weston, Lol Coxhill, Mark Sanders, Axel Dorner, Hans Koch, Phil Minton, Max Eastley and Steve Beresford.
ARILD ANDERSEN is a Norwegian jazz musician and bassplayer who became renowned in the late 1960s, particularly because of his collaboration with Jan Garbarek. In 1982 Andersen startet the band Masqualero together with Jon Christensen, Nils Petter Molvær, Jon Balke and Tore Brunborg. His musical focus since the 1990s has been to combine Norwegian folk music with improvised music. In 1994 he wrote the music for Kristin Lavransdatter (for theatre). Andersen was «artist in residence» during Moldejazz 2005. In 2010 Andersen received the Ella Award at the Oslo Jazzfestival.
THE SEEN was founded in 2007, on Mark Wastell’s initiative. Through the years THE SEEN arose in different constellations (which never gets repeated), with among others Tetuzi Akiyama, Mattin, Michael Duch, Graham Halliwell, Andrea Neumann, Rhodri Davies, Paul Hood, Takehiro Nishide, Annette Krebs, Lee Gamble, Matt Davis, Joe Williamson, Wolfgang, Fuchs, Burkhard Beins, Tomas Korber, Paul Abbott, Ben Owen, and others.
The Norwegian version of THE SEEN consists of a bass-oriented ensemble of musicians and video art.
