The Trondheim Concertos

Kunsthall Trondheim welcomes you to a concert with The Trondheim Symphony Orchestra’s own Baroque Ensemble, under the direction of Sigurd Imsen.

This evening offers a musical exploration into ‘Trøndersk’ culture history and classical music – a unique opportunity to experience lesser known ‘Trøndersk’ culture history in a contemporary art exhibition.

There has been found 25 violin concertos in the manuscript collection of NTNU, where most of them are by unknown or anonymous composers. There’s also been found hand written manuscripts by amongst others, Vivaldi. These concerts come from a time when Trondheim experienced a period of economic expansion. One of the important factors for this prosperity was the success of Røros Copper Works. Sigurd Imsen, violinist in The Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, has researched these manuscripts in an attempt to create more knowledge about the earliest history of classical music in Norway.

The concert is a part of a bigger education programme about the history of extraction at Kunsthall Trondheim this Fall 2018, in collaboration with Kunnskapsbyen NTNU. This is a part of the programme connected to Rivers of Emotion, Bodies of Ore – Kunsthall Trondheim’s group exhibition about mining and extraction, which focuses on questions regarding the relationship between extraction industries and culture, placed in a contemporary context.
