Alexandra Pirici and Raluca Voinea: Manifesto for the Gynecene

Bilde: Plakatbilde / Raluca Voinea & Alexandra Pirici, Manifesto for the Gynecene, 2015.

Welcome to presentation of the manifesto «Manifesto for the Gynescene – Sketch for a New Geological Era» by artist Alexandra Pirici and curator Raluca Voinea. Alexandra Pirici will also present her work Monument to Work.

At a time when reactionary forces offers a dark and dystopian vision of the world, this manifesto proposes a different agency – one that takes the feminine principle as a starting point for imagining a common future: This new geological era can be thought of as the Gynecene. Understanding the term does not mean thinking of a «women’s world» which excludes virility but as a world which mobilizes it towards humanist and animist goals rather than oppressive, violent and colonial enterprises. («Manifesto for the Gynecene»*, Alexandra Pirici and Raluca Voinea, January 2015)

Artist Alexandra Pirici and curator Raluca Voinea will present the «Manifesto for the Gynescene – Sketch for a New Geological Era» that they co-authored in 2015. The Manifesto, circulating online and in various magazines, was translated so far into German, Swedish, Romanian, Hungarian, Spanish, Finnish and Norwegian. It was published in the book dea ex machina, Merve Verlag, Berlin, 2015 and was featured in the exhibition Enjoy Your Struggles, curated by Katalin ERDŐDI and Zsuzsi FLOHR at FKSE gallery in Budapest, 2016. It was also the starting point for the 2-days discursive event New Solidarities, organized as part of Baltic Art Circle festival, 2016, Helsinki, curated by Satu Herrala. The presentation is in collaboration with LevArt/ LevArText which published and translated the manifesto into Norwegian in 2016. The Manifesto poster-publication is available at Kunsthall Trondheim and by contact at LevArt: www.levart.no

Alexandra Pirici will also talk about her work Monument to Work (Trondheim edition) (2016), which is one of the works in Kunsthall Trondheim’s inaugural exhibition this is a political (painting), (October 20 – February 26). The changed condition of work within our post industrial society forms the ground for Alexandra Pirici’s Monument to Work. The work builds on interviews and research on movements performed by industrial workers through their working life. The dancers are Magnhild Fossum, Loan TP Hoang, Rebecka Lange, Erikk McKenzie, Luis Della Mea, Emilie Thun and Tony Tran. The work is produced in collaboration with DansiT – Regional Dance Agency for Professional Dancers and Choreographers in Sør-Trøndelag, Norway. The last enactment of Monument to Work at Kunsthall Trondheim is Sunday, February 26.

(* The manifesto is translated to Norwegian by Art historian Kamilla Freyr / LevArt.)

The manifesto will be free of charge for those who will attend the event. The presentations will be held in English.
