Explore the cleansing potential of fire with us at HAVET Arena on Sunday, 17 March at 3:00 pm. Through Relaxing in Intensity you'll gain a unique insight into traditional sauna rituals from various perspectives.
Relaxing in Intensity briefly present three perspectives on sauna led by two of Havet’s sauna masters. The session will guide participants through three rituals focusing on the purpose of fire in sauna traditions and elaborating on this importance through storytelling, bodily focus and spirituality.
The session will take around 45 minutes, with breaks to take a dip, followed by an hour for participants to spend in Havet’s saunas to absorb the information and experience the saunas in a new way.
Different philosophies, techniques and outlooks on sauna, dependent on time, place, social norms and the bodies inhabiting the sauna itself, are plentiful. Sauna as a tradition is thought to have originated somewhere in the Baltic region around 2000 BC but has become a staple of health spas, hotels and homes around the world. In the most basic sense, the process is as simple as heating rocks and throwing water over them to create steam. However, the role of ritual and science in altering that process and adding layers of meaning and experience are what really make sauna special. The ways that fire, water and community combine to cleanse, provide safe space, energise, nurture and enlighten will be unveiled, along with a few tricks of the trade for getting the most out of sauna.
