Artists Panel Discussion - Queer Activism
--- This event will be exclusively held in English –-
All through history art has been a space for expressing feelings, experiences and identities. The reception of queer art in many places has turned to an open and accepting one the last decade, but underestimating, ignoring and oppressing queer voices in art is still a worldwide issue. From the love poems of ancient Greece, to the newer drag artistry, the arts have been a tool for people to take up space in an otherwise heteronormative society. How do queer artists navigate the arts as free means of expression?
Panel Discussion @Kunsthall Trondheim
Kabi Kimari (Kenya), Nina Eriksson (Sweden), and other artists, will engage in a discussion about how they use their art as a form of queer activism and expression.
Performance @Kunsthall Trondheim
The panel discussion will be followed by a spectacular show put on by Oslo-based performance art group Karmaklubb* at Kunsthall Trondheim, shifting the focus from discussion to celebration, “fra Protest til Fest”.
After the event, we move from Kunsthallen to Bodegaen at Studentersamfundet, where Karmaklubb* will continue the performance. You are all invited to join the rave and celebration of queer art and activism the spirit of freedom, community and LOVE! <3333333

Karmaklubb*
Karmaklubb* is a queer club concept. Established sometime around 2018, Karmaklubb* has for several years been investigating various architectures — physical as well as virtual, historical, archival — and how they can be challenged and tried out, potentially changed through a direct approach to the use and the presence of bodies in those spaces.
Nina Eriksson
The Swedish artist Nina Eriksson works with soft sculpture, text and installation in experiments to envision queer presents, futures, and imaginaries. These experiments are often based in a place of longing and loneliness, as well as a questioning of what the making of one's own identity can be in relation to how we meet and see other people.
Kabi Kimari:
Kabi Kimari is a 25-year-old multidisciplinary artist based in Nairobi, Kenya. They create art through photography, paintings, film, and digital art. Their work explores the depths of African spirituality in a postmodern world, and expectations of sexuality and body imagery in a surreal manner. The relationship between mental health and spirituality is also important in their art.
