Shape the Echo: Earthseed Book Club

Shape the Echo: Earthseed Book Club

A series of workshops on change, shaping community, and the futures we dare to imagine.

About the Series

Join us for a three-part journey inspired by Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower and the Earthseed philosophy: Transformation, adaptability, nature, and change. Together we’ll read, reflect, and dream.

With food and refreshments to sustain us, each session builds on the last. Our shared visions will be compiled into a book and archived at Trondheim Folkebibliotek as a time capsule.

You don’t need to have read the book to join. This series is open to everyone; come as you are with curiosity and imagination.

Tuesday 1 October, 17:00–19:00 – Learn: Parable of the Sower & The Earthseed Philosophy

Step into Octavia E. Butler’s prophetic novel and uncover the heart of Earthseed: Transformation, adaptability, nature, and change. Together we’ll read, listen, and reflect on the verses that shaped Butler’s vision and discover what wisdom they might offer us today.

Tuesday 8 October, 17:00–19:00 – Live: Shaping Change in Our Communities

How do we live Earthseed today? Through dialogue and collaborative mapping, we’ll explore how its lessons can spark resilience, creativity, and compassion in our daily lives, and imagine what it means to shape change together in Trondheim and beyond.

Thursday 10 October, 17:00–19:00 – Dream: Black, brown, and indigenous Futures in Space: A Collective Writing + Dreaming Workshop

If Black people were in charge of space travel, what would that world look like? In this collective writing and dreaming workshop, we’ll co-create visions of liberated futures.
