Kunsthall Trondheim and ArtScene Trondheim welcomes you to a book launch!
Gustav Svihus Borgersen in conversation with Jonas Ekeberg about
«Postnordisk – Den nordiske kunstscenens vekst og fall 1976 – 2016».
«Postnordisk» is thick as a log of wood (…). [The publication] ought to be on the curriculum of any art history course in the Nordics, based on this material alone (…).
–Arve Rød, Dagbladet, 21 October 2019
Discussing art solely on American premises gains no-one. Always looking to the large centres is provincial.
– Jonas Ekeberg, Klassekampen, 19 October 2019
About the publication:
«Postnordisk – Den nordiske kunstscenens vekst og fall 1976-2016» (Post Nordic – The Rise and Fall of the Nordic Art Scene 1976-2016) provides an extensive presentation of the Nordic art and art scene in the transitional period from postmodernism to what is today referred to as “the era of contemporary art”. The story is focussed around three historical situations: The early 1990s, when artists, critics and curators in the “new” art scenes challenged Nordic postmodernism; the end of the 1990s, when the 90s artists were controversially labelled “the Nordic miracle”; and the 2000s, when art institutions saw a shift to the left and cultural politics to the right.
The book presents in-depth analyses of artworks, exhibitions, publications and institutions through 40 years, and culminates into a historical and political portrait of the forces that shape the conversation around art. The author treats the subject with academic weight and linguistic lightness, and makes room for the voices of the art field to be heard. This makes for a lively history of art, covering topics such as Nordism, feminism, online culture, identity politics, social art, globalism and capitalism criticism.
The launch is free and open to all! Light refreshments will be served.
