Winter is coming

Join us for an evening of performances and a party at Kunsthall Trondheim and Lokal Bar – Scene – Klubb, Saturday, November 9, 2019, 7:30pm.

Winter is coming. Ice-blue skies and the first frost on the ground make us feel the beginning of the snowy season. A new phase is also starting at Kunsthall Trondheim, where Stefanie Hessler just took up her tenure as new director. Join us for an enchanting evening of performances and DJ sets to shake off our longing for summer and dive deep into the new season. This special night is conceived as a rite of winter and a celebration of the things to come!

For the first time, Kunsthall Trondheim and Lokal Bar – Scene – Klubb collaborate to present contemporary performance artist from Oslo Alice Slyngstad, celebrated Paris-based singer and performer Regina Demina, Trondheim-based DJ Erik Skantze, and, as a highlight at Lokal Klubb later in the evening, a party with sought-after producer and DJ Baba Stiltz (XL Recordings).

In their performances, Alice Slyngstad combine costumes, choreography, and song to explore tensions and identity. Spontaneous interventions and purposeful misspellings find their ways into Slyngstad’s work, bringing humorously grand gestures into monumental or official contexts. By drawing out nervousness and dwelling in awkward moments, Slyngstad negotiates the tension between performers and audiences as well as space. In the piece Magic Towel, performed on this occasion, the pressure of observation eventually gives way to release of tension.

Regina Demina is a genre-defying visual artist, performer, model, and singer. Slipping into and out of a myriad of alter egos, her mesmerizing stage shows are equally theater, internet-induced stream of consciousness, and dance party. In 2018, Regina Demina launched her first EP titled L’été meurtrier (One Deadly Summer) on Kwaidan Records, and was invited for a month-long residency at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. At Kunsthall Trondheim, she weaves a world of macabre tales, illusory beauty, and atmospheric energy punctuated by electroacoustic and experimental electronic rhythms.

With his alternating rhythms, frivolous melodies, and minimalistic motifs, Erik Skantze is an exciting addition to Norwegian space disco. Since his first song Stargaze (2014) was released on Full Pupp to acclaimed reception, he has produced a number of remixes for Atella and Skatebård, among others. Furthermore, he has rendered the Norwegian underground genre space disco with an elementary and playful twist through his follow-up single Danserytme (2018).

Baba Stiltz (XL Recordings) is a producer from Stockholm who defies categorization. For the last few years, he has been making highly idiosyncratic dance music with pop-lubed melodies and a notion for youthful exuberance. Much of his output can be classified as house, ranging from reflective, somewhat melancholy tracks to disco-influenced burners. However, he also slips into downtempo electropop, and has regularly produced beats for Swedish rapper Yung Lean. Baba Stiltz has played at clubs and festivals around the world, from Fabric to Berghain.
