Staircase Library

The Staircase Library is a small, open reading space built into the heart of our building. We have transformed the transitional space of the broad staircase between our galleries into a shared place for curiosity, learning, and conversation. Over the ten years Kunsthall Trondheim has been at Kongens gate 2, we have collected and produced numerous publications while researching projects, working with artists, and visiting other institutions. We are now making this collection available to you! We invite you to take a seat, look through the collection, do some school work, or just watch the world go by.

People of all ages are welcome to come and discover ideas, stories, and perspectives that expand their understanding of contemporary art and the world more broadly. The collection includes a mix of artist monographs, exhibition catalogues, artist's book projects, photobooks, art journals and zines, alongside books focused on social theory, history, ethics, and a host of other weird and wonderful subjects. The library will grow and change over the coming years, as new items enter the collection, reflecting the themes and questions explored at Kunsthall Trondheim.

The space is also used by our education team for workshops, children’s activities, community gatherings and as a place to just sit and read a book or do some school work.
