Acid Rhythms

Doris Chase: Circles I (1971), still. 16 mm, color, sound, 6.75 min.

Kunsthall Trondheim presents Acid Rhythms, a group exhibition celebrating women’s pioneering image-processing and early computer animation videos. Beginning in the late 1960s, artists working in video became impassioned about the possibilities of camera-less image creation. The artists’ works mark the ways in which rhythm became an important site of interpolation between the body and the emerging computational machine, from improvisational psychedelic environments to multi-layered ballet dancers bringing focus to form, technique and precise choreography. Collectively they illustrate the range of possibility that this important experimental moment in the history of new media art was steeped in, whilst demonstrating the direct origins of many visual cultures around us today.

Acid Rhythms is organized by Helena Shaskevich & Joe Rowley.
