Hidden Waves

nyMusikk Trondheim and Kunsthall Trondheim presents Christina Kubisch's Score Exhibiton Hidden Waves. Score Exhibition is an exhibition concept developed by nyMusikk Trondheim, centre for contemporary music, presenting works by leading composers.

Kubisch belongs to the first generation of sound artists. Christina Kubisch's work displays an artistic development that is often described as Gesamtkunstwerk – the discovery of acoustic space and the dimension of time in visual arts on one hand, and a redefinition of relationships between material and form in music on the other.

As part of the exhibition Hidden Waves the audience is invited to experience the Trondheim edition of the artist's Electrical Walks. In Electrical Walks Trondheim the audience will receive a pair of special induction headphones and a map of the surroundings of Trondheim, on which the possible routes and electrical fields of particular interest are marked, the visitors can set off as individuals or as groups. Our perception of everyday reality changes when listening to the electromagnetic fields; things we have grown accustomed to appear in a different context. Nothing looks the way it sounds. And nothing sounds the way it looks.

Join Electrical Walks during the opening hours of the Kunsthall from Friday 19 August. The headphones and map can be picked up in the reception of Kunsthall Trondheim.

About Score Exhibition

nyMusikk is Norway’s centre for contemporary music. nyMusikk’s main purpose is to promote the radical, experimental and genre-crossing music throughout Norway.

Since the first edition in 2011, nyMusikk Trondheim has developed the concept of Score Exhibition, a mixture of festival and exhibition where the works of leading composers are presented over several days in a unique format where performances are complemented by displaying graphic and non-traditional scores as what they actually are: works of art.

By both watching the scores and listening to the music, the audience is invited deeper into the artistic process of the composer, as well as the performers.

Previous editions of the Score Exhibition:

2011: Genesis exhibition (Grenager/Fongaard/Nordheim/Moe)
2012: Christian Wolff - Edges
2013: Wandelweiser – ort, zeit (klänge)
2014: Pauline Oliveros – The Deep Listening Pieces
2015: Listen With Care – KamFest – a retrospective look on KamFest composers
2016: Cornelius Cardew/AMM – From Scratch
2017: Jennifer Walshe – The New Dicipline
2019: Mats Gustafsson – Pieces of Peace & Fire!
2022: Christina Kubisch – Hidden Waves
