Drawing is looking. Artist in conversation: Lotte Konow Lund

Sketch for What Fades in the Sun. Reproduced with the artist’s permission.

Welcome to a conversation with artist Lotte Konow Lund.

This evening, Lotte Konow Lund will tell us about her artistic practice, using her drawings and sculptures from the exhibition, What Fades in the Sun at Kunsthall Trondheim as a starting point. Among other things, she’ll talk about working with drawing with the inmates at Bredtveit penitentiary for women, as well as contributing to the work 66 minutter for Norway’s first exhibition on the theme of the 22 July terrorist attacks. Lotte Konow Lund argues that drawing is an important method of viewing the world in an era when we register less and less of what goes on around us – not least bleak news stories about the plights of others. Lotte Konow Lund’s art stems from a strong engagement in societal matters, but an equally important aspect is showing the humour and warmth that connects the experience of the individual with the collective experience.

From the exhibition text:
“There is something raw and unfinished about Lotte Konow Lund’s art, as if the hand that recently left the paper is still nearby. The viewer gets a sense of being part of an ongoing process. Through the collection of diary notes, which makes up part of the exhibition, the artist allows us to come closer, not just to her working methods, but to her personal life. There is a trust there, like the beginning of a conversation.”
