Monday 16 October at 19.00 Naomi Niyo Bazira of Oi! Norway invite you to join in on a conversation with some of Trondheims most important voices for inclusion in the city's cultural field: Azra Halilovic, Thomas Wanjohi and Karim Tahir.
How can we facilitate projects and movements that lead to positive permanent social change for racial and ethnic minority groups within Norway? What strategies have worked and which strategies don’t work, for example, in the context of cultural and social work? Those are the main questions that our panellists will address while delving into successful strategies and highlighting those that have proven to be ineffective in the conversation during this event.
The event is free, and open for all of you who are interested in understanding how young activists can navigate the challenges of constantly changing life circumstances, occurring typically in youth, while striving to bring a positive and lasting social change for marginalised groups. To maximise the chances of creating effective change, it's often best to begin with small, local initiatives. Therefore, this event's discussion will centre around Trondheim and the significant role that building local communities play in this context.
During this event, four culture workers with backgrounds relevant to this topic have been invited by Oi! and Kunsthall Trondheimto participate in a diverse panel discussion. They will share their experiences and discuss the strategies that have proven successful in their projects, specifically those aimed at achieving sustainable social transformation for minority groups.

Particiapants:
Azra Halilovic
Azra has a background in performing arts, podcasting and she works as a minority consultant in Trondheim kommune, in addition to being a Columnist in Adresseavisen. Together with her collegue Anna Lian, Azra hosts a podcast “Anna og Azra Bretter opp ermene”, a platform for discussion, reflection and criticism around arts and culture. The same platform also has segments called “Ukritisk '' and “Saupstad Calling”, where groups of young people discuss and criticize artistic and cultural events. Her personal experiences and ideas are to look forward to.
Thomas Wanjohi
Thomas is coming with unique experiences gathered since 1979 when he first moved to Norway (specifically Trondheim) and his work as a counsellor in Trondheim Dialogsenter, a department of the municipality dedicated to working with different social issues that minority groups face in Trondheim. Thomas has also been working in organizational development for the last 36 years. His unique perspective and excessive professional experience about the topic is bringing invaluable ideas into the conversation.
Karim Tahir
Karim is the founder, leader and initiative taker of BROBYGGERNE (The Bridge Builders), a nonprofit organization with the mission of fostering interaction between Norwegian organizations, population groups, and individuals. The goal of the organization is to promote Norwegian values and traditions while at the same time welcoming everyone to participate as an equal in a constructive, critical and respectful conversation about inequality and disagreement that can be found within those values. The organization prioritises engagement in cultural, social, and volunteer activities to build bridges between diverse groups and individuals in Norway.
Moderator
Naomi Niyo Bazira
With a background in sociology and social work, Naomi is a member of Oi Norway in Trondheim and a moderator for this event who advocates for social transformation through arts and culture. As a minority woman herself, she's dedicated to ensuring that young people benefit from impactful cultural and social projects and hopes that this conversation will equip and inspire arts, cultural and social workers to facilitate projects that have higher probability to succeed for social sustainability.
