As part of Office for Contemporary Art Norway's (OCA) ongoing International Visitor Programme (IVP), we are pleased to host independent curator and writer Xenia Benivolski for a public talk at Kunsthall Trondheim 13 June at 7 pm titled You Can’t Trust Music (… and other things)

Benivolski will speak about her curatorial and research work over the past decade, as well as her current and future pursuits including You Can't Trust Music, a research project presented by e-flux, which connects sound-based artists, musicians, writers, and composers to explore the ways in which landscape, acoustics, and musical thought contribute to the formation of social and political structures. You Can't Trust Music was developed in co-partnership with M WOODS, NTT InterCommunication Center (ICC), Art Gallery of York University, Liquid Architecture, Kunsthall Trondheim, and Infrasonica.
Xenia Benivolski curates, writes, and lectures about sound, music, and visual art. Xenia was previously co-director and curator at SUGAR, a discursive space on Toronto's waterfront between 2017 and 2020, where she co-curated the exhibition Pickle Politics with Slavs and Tatars, and published the reader Shapeshift. She was a founder of the collective-run 8eleven gallery, which was operated by artists in Toronto (2013-2018); Xenia has also established the critical forum Open Sesame (2011-4), the Rearviews publication series (2011-2015), and Feminist Art Museum, a multi-site project connecting feminist art institutions in North America (2015-2017). Xenia is also a researcher who contributes to the Worker as Futurist project at Lakehead University and teaches at OCAD University in Toronto, Canada. Her writing appears in e-flux journal, Artforum, Art-Agenda, Los Angeles Review of Books, and Frieze.
