Night of Living Stories

Narrating Sustainability (NTNU) and Kunsthall Trondheim are thrilled to invite you to an afternoon of ecological storytelling and listening led by two Costa Rican visual artists, filmmakers, and co-creators of Wimblu, a transmedia platform for ecological storytelling, Alessandra Baltodano Estrada & Carolina Bello May.

The event is free and open to the public. All people and languages are welcome.

About the event: Telling and listening to stories has at some point been a communal activity in all cultures. In An Afternoon of Living Stories, Wimblu opens up a safe collective space to experience storytelling together and to explore the affective, existential, and spiritual relationship with the Earth’s diverse ecologies through the live narration of non-fiction stories. The Kunsthall session will include live storytelling in English and Spanish devoted to ecological interdependence, multi-species communities, and our relationships with the more-than-human worlds and accompanying audiovisual projections. These transmedia stories will hopefully offer us an opportunity to pause, connect with different emotions and sensations, and imagine other worlds and relations. Wimblu will conclude the event with a circle of conversation engaging the audience.

About Wimblu: Wimblu is a creative documentary studio and digital magazine based in Costa Rica dedicated to producing and publishing nonfiction stories that restore our sense of belonging and connection to the Earth. Wimblu also offers spaces for dialogue and learning where stories spark conversations about our relationship with the Earth. To date, Wimblu has organized more than 85 experiences in which more than 1,750 people from 14 countries have participated. These events create spaces for reflection and connection, encouraging participants to explore diverse perspectives, deepen their understanding of ecological and cultural issues, and cultivate a philosophy for healing our sacred relationship with the Earth.

About Facilitators:

Alessandra Baltodano Estrada: Documentary photographer/filmmaker and anthropologist from Costa Rica. Through creative nonfiction, she explores and tells stories at the intersections of ecology, culture and spirituality. She is interested in developing forms of storytelling that recognize the Earth's animacy, the continuities between our inner and outer worlds, and the complex intersections—ecological, social, political, affective, spiritual—that shape each landscape. Her projects are inspired and informed by environmental humanities, ecofeminism and spiritual ecology. She holds an M.A in Anthropology & Documentary Film from Tallinn University, as well as B.As in Communication Studies (University of Costa Rica) and Photography (Veritas University).

Carolina Bello May: Multimedia artist from Costa Rica whose work explores the relationships woven between themes such as ecology, gender, philosophy and spirituality, while seeking to experiment with different forms of storytelling. She has worked as a scriptwriter, producer and art director for media outlets in Costa Rica.  Her photographic work has been exhibited in different galleries and museums, such as: Fototeca Nacional del INAH (MEX), Museo Archivo de la Fotografía (MEX) and Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo (CRC). She holds a degree in Photography from Universidad Veritas (Costa Rica) and a Diploma in Ecological Ethics, Sustainability and Environmental Education from UPV and UAM (Spain).

An Afternoon of Living Stories is co-organized by Hanna Musiol (ISL/HF) Ysabel Muñoz (ISL/HF), Gulabuddin Sukhanwar (LT) and Agata Maria Kochaniewicz (SU), and Wimblu, with the support of Narrating Sustainability and Just Pedagogies projects at NTNU and Kunsthall Trondheim.
